Wilhelm Willeke Balmaceda was born in 1979, in Santiago de Chile. As a result of life’s circumstances, from a very early age he was faced with the world, which would later define an intrepid and adventurous lifestyle. It was in his travels that he was impregnated with a diversity of cultures and his eyes were filled with color, voluptuousness, and exoticism. His restless spirit soon manifested itself and, as soon as he was able to do so on his own, Willeke set out to rediscover the world from different perspectives.

He chose the career of Logistics Engineering, to which he dedicated all his passion and dedication. During the years of study he took advantage of the time to re-plan his life and his itineraries, so, although he had the certificate in his hand as well as being a logistics specialist for the UN, he went out again to the vast world. After having been a columnist in several magazines that date back to logistics and having endowed his articles with the much-revered innovation, today he works as a specialist in logistics and e-commerce in the world.

Willeke’s stamp as a hardened traveler was forged in his DNA before he came into the world. Thanks to this engine that never stops roaring in each of his cells, he has traveled the world and enjoyed its culture, gastronomy, and history. Each local left his mark on him, each typical dish from the symbolic regions he visited left a beating taste on his palate and each place left part of its history engraved in his subconscious. Thus, today this biker, a definition he has given himself due to his love for motorcycles, and discoverer of the world and life, lives his three passions to the fullest: traveling around every corner of the planet, living the sea in the first person and leaving furrows while traveling on the road, the third of his passions.

Traveling around the world and getting away from it all has allowed him to connect with the different elements that this Earth has to offer. That’s how he began to develop a very close affinity with the sea. Willeke discovered that not everything in the world is at first sight and on the surface, but that the depths have much to offer. On the day he explored the universe that takes place in the deep ocean waters, he realized that this planet had more to offer than he believed. His capacity for amazement was challenged and this made him go one step further and become a diving instructor for the prestigious ANDI International certification, a diving school that takes curious people with a thirst for new emotions under the sea to discover a different way of being surrounded by the wonders of the globe. He was so inspired by this new way of life that he opened his diving school, from which he immerses himself with his students in the most exotic and exuberant waters of the blue planet. Every fish, every starfish, and every coral reef becomes part of his knowledge, which he transmits with total fervor to those who share this same love for the sea that is already part of his being.

His third great passion, the world of the road, is the one that has the greatest connection with this book, the work that fuses his unconditional love for the road and his innovative writing skills. On the road, Willeke feels like a fish in the water. As soon as he starts his tireless companion’s engine, not only does the machine begin to roar, but so does his wanderer’s heart. Over the years, he’s ridden on the world’s friendliest and most inhospitable roads on his motorcycle. It is exactly on that stretch of pavement, which intrudes on the most incredible landscapes, as well as on the works that come out of his handwriting and reflect the most vibrant of his experiences, that this daring traveler finds true freedom. When the air breaks in two at his relentless pace into the unknown, Willeke feels that at last nothing binds him anywhere anymore and that the chains are breaking.

At the age of thirty-seven he decides to write his first novel, a piece of literature in which he manages to capture and tell the world about the huge love he feels for motorcycles and for the magical universe he can access while riding them. A universe that connects him directly with nature and makes him exist in complicity with the adrenaline of speed. In other words, getting on a motorcycle is for him to shake hands and ride alongside the primal current of life. But that’s not all; through a careful network of words selected with the insight of someone who knows the world like the back of his hand, Willeke has managed to assemble the key pieces to create a story that will not only immerse those who decide to lose themselves in the exciting world of pavement but will make them ride and experience in their flesh a plot full of suspense, adventure, and passion.

The whole world gave voice to his fantastic creation and this earned him an invitation to exhibit at FILSA 2018. Along with this, he has participated in several interviews for many national and international media. These public presentations have made more and more people interested in knowing Willeke and his biker stories, so he has been invited to participate in various activities both in Chile and abroad, among which those in which his role as a biker has supported causes and actions such as those promoted by the Telethon stand out.

Thanks to all this, when Willeke is greeted today by someone who admires him or when he is asked for an autograph when he sees him having dinner in a restaurant, he is sure that it is not only his literary work that brings him closer to people but also his humanity.
